REPTILES OF THE WORLD SPECIES LISTS

EASTERN THREE-TOED EARLESS SKINK
Hemiergis talbingoensis

Found in many parts of Victoria, ACT, Eastern NSW, and the far south-east of Qld

There are 2 Subspecies of Hemiergis talbingoensis - More information further down this page.

The Eastern Three Toed Earless Skink (Hemiergis talbingoensis talbingoensis) pictured above is from Black Mountain, Canberra, ACT - Notice that this species has 3 fingers and 3 toes.

The Eastern Three Toed Earless Skink (Hemiergis talbingoensis talbingoensis) pictured above is from Albury, NSW

Note that the status of Hemiergis decresiensis and Hemiergis talbingoensis which were previously all known as Hemiergis decresiensis is uncertain. Many sites are still using the name Hemiergis decresiensis to describe lizards that probably should be called Hemiergis talbingoensis.

I have used the names I think are possibly going to be the long term names for the 4 subspecies however these may change in the future.

The main thing to bear in mind is that there currently appear to be 4 subspecies.

The Eastern Three Toed Earless Skink (Hemiergis talbingoensis talbingoensis) pictured above has started regrowing the tip of its tail, and was photographed in Bathurst, NSW

In the map below which is approximate distribution only, the green area shows the distribution of (Hemiergis talbingoensis talbingoensis) (HTT) and the yellow area shows the distribution of Hemiergis talbingoensis davisi (HTD), The mauve region in western Victoria shows region where it is uncertain whether (Hemiergis talbingoensis talbingoensis) (HTT) and/or Hemiergis decresiensis continentis (HDC) occur. The red and blue areas show the distribution of Hemiergis decresiensis .

Distribution Map of Three Toed Earless Skinks

See table below for more information
