Distribution:- Spain (introduced to Ibiza), Portugal, Gibraltar,
S France, NW Italy, Croatia,
Slovenia (?), Hercegovina, Monte Negro, Macedonia,
Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Lebanon,
S Russia, Armenia, Republic of Georgia, Azerbaijan, W Iran, Iraq, W Arabia, Turkey,
Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, N Sudan

Comments:- Grows to around 2m (6ft) total length

 

M. m. monspessulanus

Found in southwestern Europe (Spain, Portugal, southern France and northwestern Italy)[5] and the western Maghreb, where it is found in Morocco and coastal Algeria, east to Algiers

 

M. m. fuscus

Found in southeastern Europe and Turkey through northern Iraq and western Iran

M. m. saharatlanticus

from Bou Izakarn in Morocco to Dakhla in the Western Sahara, inland to Aoulouz and Tafraoute
