GARNOT'S HOUSE GECKO

also called the:- Indo-Pacific Gecko, Fox Gecko, or the Assam Greyish Brown Gecko,


INVASIVE SPECIES - NOT NATIVE TO AUSTRALIA

Distribution:- India , Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Myanmar , Vietnam, Malaysian Peninsula, China Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia , Malaysia, New Guinea,
New Caledonia, Loyalty Islands, Polynesia, Fiji, Western Samoa, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Tonga

Introduced into Australia, USA , the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colombia, and New Zealand


The Indo-Pacific Gecko or Garnot's House Gecko (Hemidactylus garnotii) is parthenogenic and in Australia in 2021 it had only been recorded from the Sydney region - however in 2024 it has been recorded further north in Bellingen (South of Coffs Harbour) and is likely to spread further north.

Note that the introduced Indo-Pacific Gecko (Hemidactylus garnotii) looks extremely similar to the Asian House Gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus) but has a brighter yellow underside, slightly different spine layout on the tail, and different arrangement of scales on its chin
